Take Action

Let the Minister of Advanced Education know that you want to see an increase in funding to post-secondary education.  You can email the standard letter below, or add a personal message as well.

Dear Minister Yamamoto,

As a post-secondary student in BC, I am having a tough time paying for my education and making ends meet. BC has the highest interest rates on student loans in Canada and is the only province without a provincial grants program. Universities and colleges are being forced to implement major cutbacks due to funding shortfalls. Students across the province are graduating with staggering amounts of student debt.

As a part of the Where’s the Funding?! Campaign organized by BC students, I am writing you this letter to put forward a few simple asks. Here are some things that your government could do for students that would be a great start to making up for a decade of lost funding:

  • Eliminate interest rates on student loans.
  • Re-establish a provincial needs-based grants program.
  • Increase core funding for colleges and universities.

I know that we share the view that investing in post-secondary education is an investment in students, families and the economy. I am calling on the BC government to re-align its investment priorities and put post-secondary education back at the top where it belongs.
